$2.1 Million Research Grant Secured for ICU Study

Dr. Simon Kitto is a Co-Principal investigator along with Professor Scott Reeves in a Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation funded study entitled “Intensive Care Unit Team-Based Care Diagnostic” based at the Center for Innovation in Interprofessional Education, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). The project is a multicentre study of intensive care units (ICU) led by UCSF, Johns Hopkins and University of Toronto faculty, that have received a Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation grant of $2.1 million. The study of ICUs, including two at UCSF, Johns Hopkins and the Toronto University Health Network, aims to better understand the nature of team-based care and patient involvement in ICU settings. The end goal is to contribute to increasing the effectiveness of team-based care, to reduce duplication of effort, restrict clinical errors, improve safety and enhance the quality of patient care. Dr. Simon Kitto will lead the Toronto study portion of the project, which will involve two case study sites that have yet to be selected.
