An Update to Curriculum Design

Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) is an outcomes-based approach to the design, implementation, assessment and evaluation of a medical education program. Using competencies as the organizing framework, a learner-centered curriculum is designed.

The American Council for Graduate Medical Education and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada recommend that all post-graduate training programs in medicine become competency based. To the development of this skill, CPD is offering the Competency Based Training Workshop on April 21st, 2017.

In this one day workshop, participants will learn how to design a competency based curriculum and build state-of-the-art, user-friendly tools for the evaluation of competence. Lessons learned from the University of Toronto Orthopaedics competency based curriculum pilot project will be shared. Leaders of the implementation of competency based training in multiple specialties will also share their experiences and answer questions.

Details about this upcoming workshop can be found on the workshop website. Those engaged in Medical Education are encouraged to register and attend.
