Dr Luty works at the Department of Psychological Medicine, University of Otago Christchurch, and the Mothers and Babies Perinatal Service, in Christchurch and heads the psychotherapy training curriculum for local trainee psychiatrists. She has a strong interest in mood disorders, interpersonal functioning, psychotherapy, perinatal psychiatry and infant mental health and has been a lead investigator on research projects in all these areas. As an expert trainer and supervisor of Interpersonal Psychotherapy her goal is to disseminate IPT into front line practice in New Zealand. As a member of the Academic Department of Psychological Medicine she has developed a broad based postgraduate curriculum in perinatal psychiatry and interpersonal psychotherapy.

She balances her role at work with her role as a mother of three daughters and in her spare time she escapes to ski or mountain bike.
