Winter 2011: Letter from the Vice Dean

Happy New Year from all of us at CEPD! We hope you had a restful and rejuvenating holiday and are looking forward to new challenges in the New Year.

As some of you know, I took some medical leave in October-December to have elective hand surgery. Thanks to many of you for your good wishes during my recovery.

I want to profusely thank Dr. Jamie Meuser for his outstanding leadership in his role as Acting-Vice-Dean of CEPD while I was away. His many years of experience leading professional development at the DFCM and his leadership at the Centre for Effective Practice no doubt helped this transition for him. I also want to thank Jamie for his leadership with our new university CEPD strategic plan that is in development currently. With Ms. Helena’s Axler assistance, and our large collaborative departmental and beyond CEPD community, I am confident we will be on track with novel program development and research endeavors over the next 5 years. I also want to thank Susan Rock, Director of CEPD for her ongoing exemplary administrative leadership in our Office that is leading to new partnerships nationally and new modes of communication between health professionals in practice, course planners and teachers.

Our 2009-2010 Annual Report has now been widely distributed and can also be found as a link in this newsletter and on our website www.cepd.utoronto.ca.

With a new year comes changes and our office is no exception. Construction is happening to make space for new Directors and a growing staff. I have appointed Dr. Meuser as a Director of Special Projects. Soon, we will be announcing a search for a Director of Quality Improvement.

2010 was a busy and rewarding year; with the challenges and excitement of implementing a new strategic plan for CEPD, I am hoping that 2011 will be even more rewarding. Our Office wishes to engage all of the Departments and our community affiliates in this process. Wishing everyone well in the New Year!!

Warmest regards,
Ivan Silver
