Tri-Divisional Faculty Development Day “Stronger Together: Advancing Practice, Knowledge, and Community in Emergency Medicine”

The inaugural Tri-Divisional Faculty Development Day is a collaborative continuing professional development (CPD) event bringing together faculty from the Departments of Family & Community Medicine, Medicine, and Pediatrics. Representing emergency departments across the Greater Toronto Area, this event is designed to strengthen connections, foster collaboration, and advance both clinical and educational practices within the emergency medicine (EM) community.

The morning will include an interactive ice-breaker, a keynote presentation, and a moderated panel discussion exploring the evolution of emergency medicine and what it means to build a meaningful, sustainable career beyond the shift. Participants will be able to submit questions in advance and engage with panelists during the session.

In the afternoon, faculty will take part in two of four targeted breakout workshops, each focused on a key area of professional development:

1. Education and Teaching Practice

2. Wellness and Keeping the Spark Alive

3. Scholarly and Academic Practice

4. Coaching and Leadership Practice

These sessions will be interactive, practical, and peer-driven, offering tools, shared experiences, and strategies tailored to diverse interests and career stages.

The goal of this CPD activity is to support professional growth, foster community, and help faculty find renewed purpose and connection in their work across academic and clinical emergency medicine.

SickKids Advanced Cardiology Education (ACE) Program 2025 – 39 hr Certificate of Completion (Formerly SickKids Advanced Paediatric Cardiology Program)

The ACE Program has been developed, operated, and delivered by SickKids, over the past 9 years to healthcare professionals across 5 continents. (Refer to Uploads Folder: 2024-25-SKACE-Demographics)

A comprehensive, 33-week online curriculum that empowers healthcare professionals with the latest technical, cognitive, collaborative, and affective skills necessary to deliver high-quality care to children with heart disease. This livestream webinar series, consists of 200+ sessions and takes place every Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time, and all sessions are recorded for later on-demand review. The program offers a unique opportunity to participate in a psychologically safe and enriching community of practice by engaging with over 100 renowned interprofessional subject matter experts and sharing knowledge and experiences with learners from around the world. Participants are eligible to earn up to 200 continuing professional development credits, and an Accredited Certificate of Completion. Attendees develop a fundamental knowledge of topics. In 2024 we developed a 39-hour Certificate of Completion program designed to provide participants with foundations in pediatric cardiology.
To acquire the 39-hour certificate, participants must attend a minimum of 20 hrs or more of Foundational Core Sessions. Elective sessions can make up the remainder of the 39 hours. Refer to the “39 hr Certificate of Completion-Foundation and Elective Sessions” document which identifies those sessions that are Foundational Core and those sessions that are Elective. Sessions are categorized under Foundational, Advanced Core, and Elective based upon thoughtful decision making about the topic itself, the level of learners, and how well sessions were attended in the previous year.
Faculty consist of but are not limited to Paediatric Cardiovascular Surgeons, Cardiologists, Intensivists, Interventionalists, Anesthesiologists, Paediatricians, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Pathologists, Radiologists, Perfusionists, Hematologists, Pharmacists, Bioethics, and Educational Specialists. Best suited to national/international health care professionals invested in better outcomes for children with congenital and acquired heart disease. SickKids Paediatric Infectious Diseases Update 2026 (SickKids Paediatric ID Update 2026)

New and emerging infectious diseases continue to play a critical role in pediatric practice. Prevention, diagnosis, and management of these conditions are integral to optimizing child health outcomes. This half-day virtual conference will highlight current and leading-edge knowledge and practices in pediatric infectious diseases, with content relevant to health care professionals in pediatrics, infectious diseases, and family medicine.

The program will feature one plenary presentation and five concise “Quick Hit” sessions, each designed to deliver focused, practical updates. Approximately one-third of each session will be reserved for audience questions and discussion. Educational methods will include case-based learning, interactive multiple-choice questions (MCQs), and opportunities for real-time engagement with expert faculty to reinforce learning and promote clinical application.

KT Canada Seminar Series 2024-2025

As part of KT Canada’s mandate, we have developed and hosted the first, expert-led seminar series dedicated to current and emerging topics in knowledge translation (KT). Reception to the series has been impressive, as we continue to establish links to researchers, health care professionals, policy makers and trainees.

Opioid use disorder treatment

The Opioid use disorder treatment (OUDT) course provides the foundation of the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for health care practitioners to provide treatment and support for people experiencing opioid use disorder.
The modules offer readings, audio and video clips, supplemental reading materials and a variety of interactive learning activities such as case studies, web meeting, reflection activities, quizzes and online discussions.
The Case studies provide opportunity to consider approaches to treatment, as well to incorporate inter-professional collaboration when providing care. Detailed, formative feedback is provided to learners upon submitting responses to case studies and quizzes.

2025 META:PHI Webinar Series

This monthly webinar series will feature experts in substance use disorder management presenting on current topics in addiction medicine. The target audience for this series is clinicians working with people who use substances in a variety of clinical settings, including primary care, rapid access addiction medicine clinics, withdrawal management, emergency care, and acute care.

Canadian Pregnancy Planning Guidelines E-Learning Module

This asynchronous eLearning program offers a comprehensive series of five modules based on the Canadian HIV Pregnancy Planning Guidelines (CHPPG). Designed specifically for care providers, this course delivers essential information on reproductive counselling in the context of HIV. Module 1 focuses on reproductive planning for all individuals living with HIV, emphasizing its critical role in promoting reproductive justice, rights, and choices of people living with HIV. Module 2 delves into contraception as a key component of reproductive planning. Participants will learn about various contraceptive options and their implications for individuals with HIV. Module 3 outlines preconception planning, offering guidance on preparing for pregnancy. This module covers crucial aspects of health optimization and risk reduction strategies for people living with HIV who are planning to conceive. Module 4 explores conception options for individuals with HIV. It provides an in-depth look at different methods and associated considerations to support informed decision-making. Module 5, discusses assisted reproduction in the context of HIV. Participants will gain insights into the available assisted reproductive technologies and applications for people living with HIV. Together, these modules equip care providers with the knowledge and tools to support the reproductive health and rights of people living with HIV.

Managing Alcohol Use Problems Online Course

This course designed for physicians and other health care providers consists of five self-directed online modules and aims sto enhance the knowledge and skills to more effectively identify, assess and treat clients with alcohol use problems.

This five-module, self-directed online course explores the impact of alcohol use problems and how to is engage, treat and support clients with alcohol use problems through various instructional activities, such as case scenarios, interactive review questions, individual activities and end-of-module quizzes.

The use of common pharmacotherapies and psychosocial treatments for alcohol use disorder are also explored.

Fundamentals of Mental Health Online Course

One in five Canadians experiences a mental health problem in a given year. This five-module, self-directed online course explores basic concepts of mental health and mental illness. The prevalence of mental health problems in Canada, the risk and protective factors that influence mental health, and the links between mental health and the social determinants of health are explored.

The importance of creating a safe space for clients and developing a positive therapeutic relationship are discussed. Various treatments for common mental health challenges-including psychoeducation, lifestyle changes, medications and psychotherapy are described, and additional strategies to support clients and their families are explored.

2025 – University of Toronto Network for Healthy Populations Seminar Series

The Network hosts a virtual monthly seminar on the third Monday of each month. Three sessions per year are held in partnership with the Banting & Best Diabetes Center BBDC and focus on offering students and trainees an opportunity to share their research.

The goals of the Network’s Education Seminars are to:
• Promote and showcase cutting edge research and innovations from outstanding academic researchers, community organizations, clinicians and patient partners that highlight the goals and objectives of the Network.
• Mobilize knowledge amongst university, community and clinical partners in areas such as innovative research methodologies, stakeholder, community, and patient engagement practices, research outcomes and implementation science.
• Share experiences and evidence on how to design, implement and evaluate interventions that reduce risk, improve care, and support the creation of healthier living environments.
• Create a venue to build and foster cross-disciplinary collaboration between Network members including academic researchers, community organizations, clinicians, trainees, students and patient partners.
