2025 – University of Toronto Network for Healthy Populations Seminar Series
Jan. 20 - Dec. 31, 2025The Network hosts a virtual monthly seminar on the third Monday of each month. Three sessions per year are held in partnership with the Banting & Best Diabetes Center BBDC and focus on offering students and trainees an opportunity to share their research.
The goals of the Network’s Education Seminars are to:
• Promote and showcase cutting edge research and innovations from outstanding academic researchers, community organizations, clinicians and patient partners that highlight the goals and objectives of the Network.

Opioid use disorder treatment
Jan. 13 - Dec. 31, 2025The Opioid use disorder treatment (OUDT) course provides the foundation of the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for health care practitioners to provide treatment and support for people experiencing opioid use disorder.
The modules offer readings, audio and video clips, supplemental reading materials and a variety of interactive learning activities such as case studies, web meeting, reflection activities, quizzes and online discussions.
The Case studies provide opportunity to consider approaches to treatment, as well to incorporate inter-professional collaboration when providing care. Detailed, formative feedback is provided to learners upon submitting responses to case studies and quizzes.Credits (up to)

Tri-Divisional Faculty Development Day “Stronger Together: Advancing Practice, Knowledge, and Community in Emergency Medicine”
January 15, 2026The inaugural Tri-Divisional Faculty Development Day is a collaborative continuing professional development (CPD) event bringing together faculty from the Departments of Family & Community Medicine, Medicine, and Pediatrics. Representing emergency departments across the Greater Toronto Area, this event is designed to strengthen connections, foster collaboration, and advance both clinical and educational practices within the emergency medicine (EM) community.
The morning will include an interactive ice-breaker, a keynote presentation, and a moderated panel discussion exploring the evolution of emergency medicine and what it means to build a meaningful, sustainable career beyond the shift. Participants will be able to submit questions in advance and engage with panelists during the session.
In the afternoon, faculty will take part in two of four targeted breakout workshops, each focused on a key area of professional development:
1. Education and Teaching Practice
2. Wellness and Keeping the Spark Alive
3. Scholarly and Academic Practice
4. Coaching and Leadership Practice
These sessions will be interactive, practical, and peer-driven, offering tools, shared experiences, and strategies tailored to diverse interests and career stages.
The goal of this CPD activity is to support professional growth, foster community, and help faculty find renewed purpose and connection in their work across academic and clinical emergency medicine.

Social, Political, and Scientific Issues in Family Medicine
Sep. 2, 2025 - Jan. 15, 2026This course was originally established about 30 years ago within DFCM's masters degree program. It explores the history and current state of Family Medicine as an academic and community-oriented discipline. Using McWhinney’s Textbook of Family of Medicine (2016) and a series of guest speakers, learners will analyze and evaluate presentations on a variety of social, political and scientific issues in primary care, and in doing so, broaden their understanding of the forces that influence one’s ability to provide quality primary care in Ontario, Canada.
There will be 7 modules involving in-person, interactive seminars and online activities (discussion and reflective activities). The in-person sessions occur approximately every 2 weeks from September to December with the online activities occurring between sessions.
Each in-person seminar is 3 hours in length and broken into a 90-minute student led discussion and analysis of selected chapters from McWhinney’s Texbook of Family Medicine (2016) and a 75 min seminar on selected primary care-oriented topics. There are 21 hours of in-person learning in this course.
For the online activities, learners prepare for and engage in quizzes, 3 online discussion groups and 2 reflective papers deepening learning gained in seminars and applying learned concepts to their own practice and to novel primary care topics.

Research Issues in Family Medicine and Primary Care
Sep. 11, 2025 - Jan. 15, 2026Research Issues in Family Medicine/Primary Care is a hybrid course approved in the School of Graduate Studies at University of Toronto (CHL5605H). It is featured in the MPH and MScCH in Family and Community Medicine field. This course provides an introduction to research methods in family medicine and primary care settings. The course will familiarize students with the principles of research methods, research design, and clinical measurement and will reinforce critical appraisal skills.
Each session will consist of a review of key concepts by the instructor, followed by interactive group discussion about the assigned exercises. Reading of the course materials and completion of the assigned worksheets or assignments is required preparation for each session.

Planning Inclusive Educational Events Workshop for Staff
February 18, 2026The Planning Inclusive Educational Events workshop is an opportunity to promote Temerty Faculty of Medicine’s Inclusive Educational Events Planning Guide (https://temertymedicine.utoronto.ca/inclusive-educational-events-planning-guide) and socialize inclusion considerations with administrative staff working in academic, clinical and research environments. By facilitating a live, interactive program with practical examples on using key concepts from the guide, the Office of Inclusion and Diversity and its collaborators aim to promote skills development among participants by enhancing the way they incorporate access, inclusion and belonging in educational event settings in order to enhance event relevance, attendance, participation and feedback.
The program design is a 3-hour in-person live workshop which will provide facilitated information on inclusive event planning concepts including avoiding tokenism, selecting diverse speakers, cultivating social safety, and embedding accessibility and disability inclusion. Participants will partake in activities to enhance and apply their knowledge of these concepts including knowledge/perspective sharing, small group exercises, scenario /vignette unpacking, and land acknowledgement development.

Princess Margaret Cancer Centre Immune Effector Cell Symposium 2026
February 20, 2026Learn about rapidly evolving updates on immune effector cell (IEC) therapy and its applications in clinical practice.

of pathology.
A unique educational environment has been created to provide state of the art facilities
for an optimal learning experience. This course is run by passionate and experienced cardiac
imagers with an extensive background in teaching cardiac imaging. The
purpose-built facility is set within a busy Academic Medical Imaging Department,
adjacent to two busy cardiac CT units (320 Multidetector CT), facilitating the viewing of
live cases during the course.

Palliative Care eLearning Program 2025-2026
Oct. 8, 2025 - Mar. 4, 2026Family physicians play an integral role in providing palliative care and supporting patients and their families with advanced illness. The Palliative Care eLearning Program aims to improve your knowledge and skills in palliative and end-of-life care, and support your involvement with local and regional palliative care initiatives.
Each webinar, facilitated by a palliative care expert, focuses on individual competency-based assessment and collaborative knowledge building discourse. Patient cases and an extensive library of resources are used to support knowledge translation to practice, to help you to perform a palliative care assessment with the most up-to-date tools and create a coherent treatment plan that addresses patient, family, and caregiver needs. The webinars will review palliative care resources and tools and how they can be incorporated into practice to ensure efficient and comprehensive assessments. The necessity of effective communication will also be covered throughout the webinars.
Learn how to identify patients in your practice that would benefit from a palliative approach to their care. Upon completion of this program, you'll be equipped to appropriately assess and manage pain and other symptoms, recognize palliative care emergencies, discuss goals of care, and consider psychosocial needs of patients with advanced illness. In addition, develop strategies for physician self-care, life-long learning, and maintaining a sustainable practice.

January 15 - March 5, 2026Design thinking is a human-centered process that invites us to think about, and approach, problems from new perspectives. With an emphasis on ideation, iteration, and collaboration, we can apply many components of design thinking to our work in healthcare and quality improvement.
When you participate in Health by Design, you join a community of health professionals who are pushing the boundaries by using design thinking to address real healthcare challenges. You’ll also generate novel ideas and test them in the clinical space.

March 7, 2026New and emerging infectious diseases continue to play a critical role in pediatric practice. Prevention, diagnosis, and management of these conditions are integral to optimizing child health outcomes. This half-day virtual conference will highlight current and leading-edge knowledge and practices in pediatric infectious diseases, with content relevant to health care professionals in pediatrics, infectious diseases, and family medicine.
The program will feature one plenary presentation and five concise “Quick Hit” sessions, each designed to deliver focused, practical updates. Approximately one-third of each session will be reserved for audience questions and discussion. Educational methods will include case-based learning, interactive multiple-choice questions (MCQs), and opportunities for real-time engagement with expert faculty to reinforce learning and promote clinical application.

Health by Design: Creative solutions for real healthcare challenges
January 15 - March 12, 2026Design thinking is a human-centered process that invites us to think about, and approach, problems from new perspectives. With an emphasis on ideation, iteration, and collaboration, we can apply many components of design thinking to our work in healthcare and quality improvement.
When you participate in Health by Design, you join a community of health professionals who are pushing the boundaries by using design thinking to address real healthcare challenges. You’ll also generate novel ideas and test them in the clinical space.
Through live online workshops and a small group project, explore how design mindsets and methods can power the development of new health systems, services, and products rooted in people’s lived experiences. Dalla Lana Fellowship in Journalism and Health Impact
Sep. 8, 2025 - Mar. 17, 2026The Dalla Lana Fellowship in Journalism and Health Impact and its antecedents at U of T have been providing mentored journalism training lasting one academic year, to medical residents and physicians since 2013. Journalism training strengthens physicians’ advocacy skills, deepens their clinical and interprofessional communications skills and empowers them with new tools for knowledge translation. The seven-month program teaches journalism skills to physicians and mentors them closely as they report on their own fields for medical and mainstream media partners, including: The British Medical Journal, CMAJ, Nature Medicine, CBC, The Toronto Star, The Canadian Press, Healthy Debate and Think Global Health (a publication of the Council of Foreign Relations in New York). The program is taught through a combination of weekly meetings with mentors, skills classes taught two-days a month, and ongoing reporting that physicians undertake on their own schedule.
The program is based on four pedagogical principles:
1. We emphasize high-contact, clinical teaching by mentoring physicians longitudinally for seven months as they practice journalism for leading media industry partners.
2. Our mentored practice is learner-led. We teach physicians how to generate media and public interest in ideas they themselves propose. These are the core skills of system-level advocacy.
3. Alongside mentorship, practitioners teach physicians a supporting curriculum of journalism skills including investigative journalism, interviewing, audio reporting, presentation and clear writing.
4. To help physicians integrate these skills into their practice after completion, we support alumni through monthly teaching calls.

Online Opioid Self-Assessment Program
Apr. 1, 2025 - Mar. 31, 2026We are offering an Online Opioid Self-Assessment Program (SAP) to help participants identify areas where improvement is required. This program's target population is physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, medical educators and medical residents. The ultimate goal is to close the gap between knowledge and action with regards to the use of opioids for chronic non-cancer pain. The 2017 Canadian Opioid Guideline recommendations were developed to help physicians make appropriate decisions to start a trial of opioid therapy for CNCP and to guide them in the monitoring of long-term opioid therapy, the detection of situations involving misuse, including addiction, and the appropriate response to such situations. The content of the educational program will be primarily based on the 2017 Canadian Opioid Guideline.

Taking Action on Planetary Health

Taking Action on Planetary Health introduces learners to the emerging and transdisciplinary social movement of Planetary health and offers the opportunity for learners to develop and implement solutions that will allow humanity and the natural systems we depend on to thrive now and in the future.

Skin Health Advocate and Resource Professional (SHARP) Program 2025 – Wounds Canada Institute
May 6, 2025 - May 5, 2026To prevent wounds and their complications, it is imperative that front-line health-care clinicians acquire the knowledge to identify patients at risk for wounds and to implement appropriate preventative and treatment measures, using a systematic approach.
Based on the best available evidence, including the content of Wounds Canada’s Foundations of Best Practice for Skin and Wound Management documents, this self-paced, multi-faceted program aims to produce health-care clinicians competent in wound prevention and care. This is accomplished by having students complete/participate in:
● 23 highly interactive online modules
● 8 synchronous webinars moderated by renowned Canadian experts who guide students through the application of course knowledge to complex clinical cases
● 2 robust assignments
● An asynchronous text-based peer-to-peer discussion forum facilitated by program facultyTopics addressed in this comprehensive, longitudinal program include skin and wound anatomy and physiology, the Wound Prevention and Management Cycle, local wound care, and the prevention and management of common wound types, including diabetic foot ulcers, pressure injuries, surgical wound complications, skin tears, venous leg ulcers, burns, peripheral arterial ulcers, and moisture-associated skin damage.
Completion of online modules includes reviewing best practice recommendation documents, watching educational videos, completing knowledge check questions, and reviewing case studies.
Led by interprofessional faculty, webinars have students discussing their success in applying their new knowledge and enablers and barriers to practice change. Using live polling, QandA submission and unmuted discussion, students also discuss complex wound cases presented by faculty, demonstrating the application of best practices in the prevention and management of wounds. Live webinars for each wound etiology occur twice annually, with an archived version available for viewing should the student not be able to attend the live session.
Students will access the asynchronous online discussion forum after each webinar to enhance their learning and networking with program faculty and other students through reflecting on the discussion board prompts and contributing at least one original post and one original response on each forum. Participation is only evaluated for completion.
To successfully complete the program, students must submit two assignments. These assignments have students applying validated risk assessment and screening tools and a wound assessment/measurement tool in different case studies, and based on their findings, identifying appropriate goals and prevention and/or treatment strategies.

Advanced Certificate in Narrative-Based Medicine
June 7, 2023 - June 7, 2026Building upon the knowledge and skills gained through the Foundational Certificate in Narrative-Based Medicine, the Advanced Certificate offers participants a unique opportunity to deepen their learning through an individualized learning pathway. All learners who have successfully completed the requirements for the Foundational Certificate are eligible to continue their studies towards the Advanced Certificate. Program faculty are available for an intake consultation to discuss an individualized plan of study tailored to the learner’s interests and goals. Learners who have successfully completed the requirements for the Advanced Certificate may submit a request (with a list of completed workshops) to receive the Advanced Certificate.
In order to be eligible to receive the Advanced Certificate, learners must complete: 1. Pre-requisite Foundational Certificate (40 hours) 2. Approved "additional portfolio offerings" or "electives" (40 hours) 3. Mentorship/Capstone Project under supervision of NBM faculty (20 hours) Learners may choose to take any of the workshops, short programs, special sessions, in any of the areas offered (see above). The Advanced Certificate must be completed within 3 years of enrollment in your first workshop following the completion of the Foundational Certificate. Mentorship/Capstone Project offers participants the opportunity to explore a topic of interest to them by completing a longer project in NBM under the supervision of a faculty member. It may be creative, reflective, curriculum-based, or scholarly. Total: 100 hours Accreditation
Learners can focus on one area or mix and match to create their own learning path by exploring topics of interest or those most relevant to their practice. Upon completion of a total of 40 hours of "additional portfolio offerings" or "elective" workshops and 20 hours of independent study work (in addition to successful completion of the Foundational Certificate), learners are eligible to receive the Advanced Certificate, which will recognize their achievement in Narrative-Based Medicine.

Best Practices in Education Rounds (BPER) – 2025-2026
Oct. 14, 2025 - Jun. 9, 2026Best Practices in Education Rounds (BPER) are organized by the Centre for Faculty Development (CFD) and co-sponsored by The Wilson Centre and the Centre for Advancing Collaborative Healthcare & Education (formerly the Centre for Interprofessional Education), our fellow Faculty of Medicine Extra-Departmental Units. Presentations are held virtually synchronously. Best Practices in Education Rounds provides the opportunity to share ‘cutting-edge’ and provocative ideas with a wide audience of interested health professional teachers, educators, leaders, and scholars. BPER provides value to participants through its short, succinct format with interactive components. These one-hour presentations focus on health professions education and faculty development topics and include concepts from a variety of education perspectives, linking education research with practice. Rounds are offered 8-9 times per academic year.

Advanced CPD Leadership Development: Leading and Influencing Change in CPD 2025-2026

Advanced CPD Leadership Development is a certificate program designed to meet the needs of individuals who are responsible for promoting excellence, innovation, and change in continuing education initiatives for health professionals. This program specifically aims to build leadership capacity by providing participants with the necessary knowledge, tools and skills to lead continuing education initiatives for health professionals in today’s complex health care environment.
We’ll begin by exploring how the demands and forces of change in health care environments have created opportunities and challenges to continuing health education providers. Then, apply best practices in CPD and change management principles to overcome barriers to change and implement new initiatives. In addition, learn how to foster collaboration and expand CPD networks, promote innovation in CPD, and identify opportunities for scholarship.

The Five Weekend Care of the Elderly Certificate Course 2026

New and Evolving Academic Leaders (NEAL) Program 2025-2026
Sep. 29, 2025 - Jun. 19, 2026The NEAL Program is a one-year advanced leadership development program offered by the Centre for Faculty Development (CFD). In the NEAL program, the group builds a learning community through three intensive one-week modules over the year, themed as Foundations, Influence and Adaptation. In these modules, interdisciplinary faculty share resources and build capacity for reflective and relational practice, system thinking, influence and impact, and leading from adaptive purpose. Between modules, participants deepen their learning with coaching, peer connections, diverse assignments and leading a capstone project through engaging others. The program is intentionally shaped to bring together a diverse set of participant leaders to consider how we all need to work collaboratively in shaping and shifting our broader system for positive health outcomes. Learners may have a formal role as a leader, or may be an influencer or change agent with a meaningful purpose. NEAL is a Canadian Society of Physician Leaders-approved leadership CPD activity required as part of the Academic Route for the Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) designation.

Canadian Rheumatology Ultrasound Society Basic Course
Oct. 18, 2025 - Jun. 30, 2026The use of of musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSK US) has increased amongst Canadian rheumatologists in the last 20 years, but we still trail other countries in this regard. MSK US complements the physical examination by allowing for superior visualization of synovitis and erosive changes compared to conventional radiography, and provides detail that supplements MRI and CT by providing dynamic real time images, while costing less. MSKUS expands the diagnostic and prognostic ability at the bedside and improves the safety, accuracy and success of joint aspirations and injections. Few rheumatologist have formal training to use this modality, thus this basic MSK US course focuses on the needs of rheumatologists and their patients. This course is a mixture of online didactic teaching over 2 weekends and virtual asynchronous feedback of ultrasound scanning homework after each weekend. An anatomy review by an anatomist at the University of Toronto provides knowledge of key anatomical joint areas scanned. Participants will engage in live lectures and interactive hands-on ultrasound sessions over two weekends to learn scanning technique for those specified areas. In between the weekend sessions, the attendee will practice ultrasound scanning and submit images for review by expert faculty and receive personalized feedback. Participants will also read key MSK US papers and complete online quizzes. Completion of the US weekends, US homework and these online quizzes will lead to a Level 1 completion certificate.

Cognitive‐behavioural therapy (CBT) is a highly effective therapy for the treatment of common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. While CBT works for clients from most cultural backgrounds, research has shown that adapting CBT to meet the needs of specific groups increases its effectiveness.This course discusses practical cultural adaptations to traditional CBT for depression and anxiety for improved treatment experiences and outcomes for Black Populations. It is intended for mental health professionals who have prior training, knowledge and experience in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT).

NBM Mentored Advanced Project (MAP)
Sep. 1, 2025 - Jul. 31, 2026The Mentored Advanced Project (MAP) offers participants the opportunity to explore a topic of interest to them by completing a longer project in NBM under the supervision of a faculty member. It may be creative, reflective, curriculum-based, or scholarly. The 20 hour MAP consists of 16 hours of independant work, and 4 individual 1 hour meetings, with an assigned mentor. Writing projects developed within a MAP are typically 4,000 – 7,000 words in length.
The MAP program fee is $2,050 plus 13% HST.

Paediatric Project ECHO Series – Year 9
Sep. 1, 2025 - Aug. 31, 2026The Paediatric Project ECHO program is a regularly scheduled series that includes teleECHO sessions and Core Competency webinars. It includes 4 specialty series: Obesity Management, Complex Care, Palliative Care, and Pain Management. It will have monthly sessions (per specialty) that are 60-90 minutes in length via videoconferencing. TeleECHO sessions will consist of two components: a didactic presentation and case-based learning. The didactic presentation is given by specialists in paediatric obesity management, complex care, pain, and palliative care. This presentation will focus on a different topic each session and include as the presenter will ask participants questions throughout. There will be an opportunity for discussion and clarifying questions following the presentation. The second part of the session will be case-based learning, where health care providers will present a de-identified patient case study. During the case presentation, the presenter will have questions for the community to help work through medical management. All attendees are invited to participate by asking clarifying questions and making recommendations on case management. All ECHO sessions are free for participants, without a minimum or maximum requirement for attendance. Core Competency sessions will feature longer didactic presentations focusing on fundamentals, with no formal patient case presentation.

2024- Medical Psychiatry Collaborative Care Certificate
Sep. 16, 2024 - Aug. 31, 2026The Medical Psychiatry Collaborative Care Certificate (MP3C) is a continuing professional development program designed to build integrated mental and physical health and collaborative care capacity of inter-professional care providers. Participants attend online and in-person, interprofessional environments that are didactic and vary in length between three to seven hours. The team-based case studies following the self-study and classroom learning are designed to foster deeper generative processing and learning on the subject and how to create coordinated care plans across various disciplines in a collaborative care team. The sessions introduce practical and accessible assessment tools and demonstrate how to use these tools to identify and/or manage co-morbidities in physical and mental health.

Sep. 8, 2025 - Aug. 31, 2026CAMH provides leadership to the overall Program, titled "ECHO Ontario Mental Health", which encompasses eight unique ECHO courses including: ECHO Ontario Mental Health, ECHO Ontario Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, ECHO Ontario Addiction Medicine and Psychosocial Interventions, ECHO Ontario Integrated Mental and Physical Health, ECHO Ontario Psychotherapy, ECHO Ontario Trans and Gender Diverse Healthcare, ECHO Ontario Adult Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and ECHO Ontario First Nations, Inuit and Métis Wellness.
Learning in these programs is supported through the provision of didactic presentations and interactive case-based learning during every session. Spine Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy Master Course
Sep. 16, 2025 - Sep. 1, 2026This comprehensive, multi-faceted, 12 week training program, is designed for learners to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform Spine SBRT at their home centres by combining didactic lectures with practical exercises. The course is organized in four phases as follows:
Phase 1 – Self Study, Asynchronous Modules
6 Self-study modules comprise phase 1, each module contains active learning through quizzes to test knowledge
Phase 2 – Synchronous, Group Learning (Virtual)
Experts and participants engage in discussion for group learning. Experts will answer learners’ questions, provide feedback and offer insights as it relates to spine SBRT and the material covered in the didactic e-learning modules
covered in the e-learning modules.
Phase 3 – Self Study, Asynchronous
Learners will engage in active learning through online exercises that test clinical judgement and decision making. A total of 10 exercises are available that encompass contouring and treatment planning. Completion of each exercises results in individualized feedback against a gold standard.
Phase 4 – Synchronous, Group Learning (virtual)
A series of synchronous, group learning sessions occur in phase 4.
The first session is dedicated to debriefing the self-study exercises in Phase 3, where experts provide group feedback and answer learner questions associated with the exercises.
The second session is a simulation session to guide learners through clinical decision making.Learners then engage in a synchronous, interactive sessions testing practical skills in Image Matching where learners will access CT datasets and perform image matches. Experts discuss and provide feedback to debrief each clinical case.
The last synchronous session is a summative patient case study where learners and experts discuss the end to end patient journey using clinical cases through group discussion.
Relevant reference resources are provided to augment the web-based learning to allow the learner to customize the depth and breadth of the learning experience to suit individual learning needs. Periodic assessment throughout the series will permit the learner to test their learning and identify areas for further exploration.

Education Scholars Program (ESP) 2025-2027 (Year 1 of 2)
Oct. 6, 2025 - Sep. 15, 2026The overall goal of the Education Scholars Program (ESP) is to enhance participants’ capacity as education scholars. Working collaboratively to solve common challenges encountered in health professions education, participants will tackle the most pressing issues in: curriculum and program development, program evaluation, and education leadership and system change. This will be accomplished through collaborative and highly applied projects, small and large group exercises, guided observations and other practically-oriented tasks that promote application of theoretical concepts to participants’ own education contexts. Additionally, individual coaching sessions scheduled throughout the program will support participants in their growth as education scholars and leaders. The program is deliberately designed to build connection and community within and beyond the program.
The ESP consists of 5 units. Each unit contains the following:

From clinical notes and electronic records, to consultation requests and discharge summaries, learn how to improve your medical records in practice.
Medical Record-Keeping is an interactive program (offered both in-person and online) that addresses the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) Medical Record-Keeping Policies. Using case-based exercises, peer assessments, and training on practice tools, this program provides participants with skills needed to keep good medical records for their patients and their practice.
This program is designed for physicians looking to improve their medical records in practice. It will be of benefit to those who wish to become familiar with documentation tools for clinical encounters and to comply with CPSO policies and legislation as they relate to record keeping.
Structure of the Program
- Over 7 total hours of live, interactive learning
- Available in-person, and online
- Case-based exercises, peer-to-peer learning, and training on practice tools
- Self-assessment activity includes pre- and post-workshop exercises and in-session outcome measures. Questions are based on requirements established by the CPSO and are reviewed and assessed. Outcome measure questions are reviewed in-session, with reference to appropriate answers. Learners receive feedback on exercises via a learner assessment/scorecard.Credits (up to)

Foundational Certificate in Narrative-Based Medicine 2025-2026
Oct. 1, 2025 - Sep. 30, 2026Narrative-based medicine is premised on the understanding that, knowingly and unknowingly, practitioners and patients together construct narratives over the course of their encounters; that these stories – with their multiple characters, conflicts and desires, subtleties and miscommunications – affect the nature and meaning of health events in all our lives; and that getting better at working with stories of all kinds has a powerful impact on both patient care and clinician fulfillment.
Jointly led by an expert in narrative-based medicine and an accomplished writer, both of whom have extensive experience working with health professionals, this intensive program is taught in two parts: NBM Principles and Practices focuses on the theory and practice of narrative-based medicine while Writing and Narrative Craft seeks to improve learners’ creative and reflective skills as writers and readers.
The program is Canada’s only virtual intensive certificate program in narrative-based clinical practice. Domestic and international learners across all disciplines are welcome.

Planning Inclusive Educational Events Workshop for Interprofessional Health Students
October 1, 2026The Planning Inclusive Educational Events workshop is an opportunity to promote Temerty Faculty of Medicine’s Inclusive Educational Events Planning Guide (https://temertymedicine.utoronto.ca/inclusive-educational-events-planning-guide) and socialize inclusion considerations with interprofessional health students (including MD, rehabilitation sciences, and graduate students) working and learning in academic, clinical and research environments. By facilitating a live, interactive program with practical examples on using key concepts from the guide, the Office of Inclusion and Diversity and its collaborators aim to promote skills development among participants by enhancing the way they incorporate access, inclusion and belonging in educational event settings in order to enhance event relevance, attendance, participation and feedback.
The program design is a 2-hour virtual live workshop which will provide facilitated information on inclusive event planning concepts including avoiding tokenism, selecting diverse speakers, and cultivating social safety. Participants will partake in activities to enhance and apply their knowledge of these concepts including knowledge/perspective sharing, small group exercises, scenario/vignette unpacking, and land acknowledgement development.

Recovery Oriented Approach online course
Oct. 6, 2025 - Oct. 6, 2026This course is part of the Concurrent Disorders (CD) and the Opioid Dependence Treatment (ODT) Certificate Programs. It is intended for mental health, addiction and allied health professionals who have completed the Concurrent Disorders Core Course and who have experience working with clients with concurrent disorders. The course aims to help these learners further their understanding of the recovery-oriented approach. Most of the content is applicable not just to recovery from both mental illness and substance use issues, but also to recovery from either one or the other. The Long COVID Web ECHO
Oct. 10, 2025 - Oct. 10, 2026This is an application for a monthly virtual Community of Practice (COP) program which uses the ECHO model.
ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is an established platform that has been used at UHN and in other centers in Ontario to train healthcare providers in remote and underserved areas (Zhou et al, 2016).
Post COVID-19 Condition (PCC) – also referred to as Long COVID- is a relatively new disease and the science is ever evolving. Our Long COVID ECHO program will serve as a platform for our healthcare practitioners to share new findings, discuss the latest guidelines and learn best practices from each other to treat the 3.5 million (or 11.7% of adult) Canadians who have PCC (StatsCan, 2023).
We are building a collaborative and interconnected Community of Practice to respond to this urgent and unique health challenge, which will accelerate the knowledge to practice continuum, to respond to person-centered needs and improve the lives of Canadians living with PCC. In our application and program, we use the term "Long COVID" to mean this condition.
Canada’s Chief Science Adviser (2022) established a task force in July 2022 to advise on ways to address post-Covid-19 condition in Canada. Below are some of this task force’s recommendations:
1. Provide timely and equitable access to person-centered care pathways for individuals living with PCC across the health care continuum regardless of ability, age, gender, geographic location or socio-economic or cultural background.
2. Establish a Canada-wide research and clinical care network for PCC and other similar post-infection chronic conditions to harmonize and coordinate efforts nationally and internationally.
We are doing just that (the two priorities above) with our ECHO program on Long COVID.

ECHO Program for Clinical Trialists, Investigators and Biostatisticians

ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is an established platform that has been used at UHN and in other centers in Ontario to train healthcare providers in remote and underserved areas.
Building on our success of our first accredited cycle (10 Sept 2024 to 10 Sept 2025), we are now implementing the ECHO program for the second time to train clinical research professionals who administer clinical and other research studies.
Clinical research is complex and constantly evolving. Virtual communities of practice programs, like ECHO, allow professionals to share experiences, especially common problems, best practices and insights from diverse research environments, promoting learning and mutual mentoring across institutions and geographies.
Our ECHO for clinical research professionals is a flexible platform for ongoing education, ensuring professionals stay up-to-date with the latest advancements, methodologies, and regulatory changes.
As mentioned, collective problem-solving is a key feature distinguishing the ECHO community of practice from others. Clinical research professionals face unique challenges, and this ECHO provides a space to collectively problem-solve, seek advice, and brainstorm solutions with colleagues who may have faced similar issues.
The ECHO will be delivered according to the standardized educational rubric of the ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) model where we would be conducting a 1-hour virtual learning session, once a month on a pre-specified key area relating to research coordination/management led by Canadian field experts and participants would be encouraged to bring their problems/areas of concern for discussion.

CPD Webinar Series: Optimizing Cancer Screening and Follow-Up Care

Narrative Approaches to Resilience in Practice: Tools and Techniques for Well-Being 2025
Oct. 23, 2025 - Oct. 22, 2026Increasing numbers of healthcare practitioners and learners feel stretched thin. Narrative-based medicine can provide an accessible antidote to clinician stress as it promotes self-awareness, connection, and meaning-making.
Drawing upon current literature about stress and well-being in healthcare, as well as writing by clinician-authors (memoirs, poems, and personal essays), we will reflect on critical themes in professional practice.
Participants will enhance their skills of close reading, listening, and reflection during this highly interactive series that blends short, didactic presentations with hands-on activities, group discussion, and prompted writing exercises. Together, we’ll explore narrative approaches and resources for well-being through discussion, text reading, and reflective writing.
There will be ample opportunity to discuss ideas in a supportive and collegial environment, including the application of practices to professional and educational contexts. The instructor will offer optional resources for further exploration. There are no required readings or assignments.

Pediatric Emergency Medicine Point-of-Care Ultrasound Workshop 2025
Nov. 4, 2025 - Nov. 4, 2026This one-day pre-conference workshop is designed to introduce and reinforce core point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) applications relevant to the care of pediatric patients across diverse clinical settings. It is intended for pediatric emergency physicians, general pediatricians, family medicine physicians, hospitalists, trainees, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other allied health professionals who care for children and have novice to intermediate ultrasound experience.
The program integrates didactic and hands-on components, covering core POCUS applications including knobology, lung, cardiac, inferior vena cava (IVC), soft tissue, renal and bladder, rectal diameter measurement, and ultrasound-guided vascular access. Clinical integration is emphasized through case-based discussions for each application.
Participants will rotate through expert-led, small-group hands-on stations designed to maximize scanning time and individualized feedback. Simulation models, volunteer scanning, and image interpretation exercises will be incorporated. A session on documentation and billing practices relevant to the Ontario context is also included.
Pre- and post-workshop learning materials, including open-access modules and reference handouts, will be provided to support longitudinal skill development.
This workshop aligns with competency-based education principles and is designed to facilitate the safe, practical integration of pediatric POCUS across community and hospital-based practice environments

Improving Patient Access to Care in the Community
Jan. 22, 2024 - Jan. 22, 2027This IMPACC (Improving Patient Access to Care in the Community) program is an interprofessional primary care CPD program designed to equip paramedics with the competencies necessary to support effective collaboration within interprofessional primary care teams. Following a comprehensive needs analyses, we have developed a longitudinal comprehensive CPD program that not only addresses current gaps in paramedic education but also anticipates the future trajectory of healthcare services. The program is designed to empower paramedics with the competencies required to navigate and contribute effectively to interprofessional primary care teams that are not co-located, offering more community-based health and social services that are both responsive and integrative. This program integrates a competency-based educational framework, ensuring that learners acquire the requisite skills for contemporary healthcare delivery. The curriculum employs a blended learning approach, combining online didactic learning with hands-on, practical experience. It emphasizes case-based and simulation-based training, reflecting real-world scenarios to develop critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills. Reflective practice and continuous professional development are embedded throughout the program to encourage continued lifelong learning. Education Scholars Program (ESP) 2025-2027 (Year 2 of 2)
Oct. 5, 2026 - Jun. 1, 2027The overall goal of the Education Scholars Program (ESP) is to enhance participants’ capacity as education scholars. Working collaboratively to solve common challenges encountered in health professions education, participants will tackle the most pressing issues in: curriculum and program development, program evaluation, and education leadership and system change. This will be accomplished through collaborative and highly applied projects, small and large group exercises, guided observations and other practically-oriented tasks that promote application of theoretical concepts to participants’ own education contexts. Additionally, individual coaching sessions scheduled throughout the program will support participants in their growth as education scholars and leaders. The program is deliberately designed to build connection and community within and beyond the program.

2024-2027 – Stepping Stones: A Foundational Faculty Development Program

Stepping Stones is a one to three year foundational faculty development program offered by the Centre for Faculty Development (CFD).
