Summary

Prescription drug abuse (PDA) and its consequences is a distinct health and social issue among Indigenous populations in Canada. Buprenorphine effectively reduces opioid use by decreasing withdrawal symptoms and cravings. From an Indigenous worl- dview, medication focused treatment can lead to continuing dependence, without improving wellness through connection to land, language and culture.
