
{"id":24,"date":"2019-06-25T09:11:55","date_gmt":"2019-06-25T13:11:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cpd.utoronto.ca\/mpa\/?page_id=24"},"modified":"2019-09-11T08:34:56","modified_gmt":"2019-09-11T12:34:56","slug":"abstracts","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.cpd.utoronto.ca\/mpa\/abstracts\/","title":{"rendered":"Abstracts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Medical Psychiatry Alliance (MPA) is pleased to announce the 2019 Medical Psychiatry Alliance annual conference: MPA Amplified: Spreading Education and Innovation, Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at the Chelsea Hotel, Toronto, ON.<\/p>\n<p>The 2019 Medical Psychiatry Alliance conference will showcase projects and share our learnings while exploring sustainability and scaling education opportunities that build capacity and collaborations. We invite all faculty, residents, students, staff and partners to join in the dissemination and discussion at the conference.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DEDICATED POSTER SESSIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For the Medical Psychiatry Alliance 2019 Annual Conference, posters will be presented electronically and dedicated poster sessions will take place as part of the conference poster crawl during the following times:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, October 8, 2019\t11:50 a.m. \u2013 12:25 p.m. and 12:55 p.m. \u2013 1:35 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Accepted posters have been assigned to a poster category. Please refer to your poster acceptance letter for the category and location details (to be confirmed).<\/p>\n<p>A large (43\u201d) flat screen TV will be set up in each breakout room. During the facilitated poster sessions, presenter(s) will be expected to provide a 3-minute presentation highlighting key points from their poster followed by a 2-minute group discussion. A facilitator will be appointed to lead the discussion. The purpose of facilitated sessions is to allow presenters and attendees an opportunity to share ideas and insights.<\/p>\n<p>To foster future communication and collaboration, we have included your poster title, abstract, and all project team members\u2019 names and contact information on the MPA conference website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOW TO PREPARE YOUR POSTER<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Posters for the 2019 MPA Conference will be presented electronically.<\/p>\n<p>Traditional poster boards will not be provided and all presenters must submit their poster electronically to  mpa.ume@utoronto.ca by Friday, September 27, 2019 and submission must be compatible with a PC platform.<\/p>\n<p>The MPA Planning Committee encourages all poster presenters to use a novel and simplified layout in lieu of the traditional research poster layout. The following is an example of a design to help transfer insights more efficiently, encourage conversations and to streamline poster design.<\/p>\n<p>CLICK HERE to learn more about how to create an insightful research poster using this format.<\/p>\n<p>A copy of the PowerPoint template for this format is included.<\/p>\n<p>SUGGESTIONS FOR EFFECTIVE POSTERS<br \/>\n1.\tLetters and numbers should be large enough and it is recommended to use font size 28 or larger. Use simple typeface and use bold type for headings<br \/>\n2.\tLead with main finding in plain language<br \/>\n3.\tBe comfortable with negative space in the poster<br \/>\n4.\tInclude a QR Code for future reference (generate QR codes here).<br \/>\n5.\tKeep it simple &#8211; use bullets, and keep text to a minimum. Don&#8217;t crowd information onto the poster.<br \/>\n6.\tKeep figures and tables simple.<br \/>\n7.\tUse a simple background and colour scheme that does not detract from the information being presented.<br \/>\n8.\tLimit use of organization logos or advertisements.<\/p>\n<p><!--The Planning Committee for the 2019 Medical Psychiatry Alliance annual conference invites all MPA project leads to submit an abstract for the facilitated poster session. While submissions that cover important and interesting areas of medical psychiatry are welcome, presenters should pick a theme that best aligns with their project work. Alignment with a theme will determine which \u201ctrack\u201d a poster is assigned to for the conference poster crawl.--><\/p>\n<h2>Poster themes<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Building Teams for Integrated Compassionate Care<\/li>\n<li>Collaborating with Clients and Families to Develop Medical Psychiatry Education<\/li>\n<li>Improving Communication with Patients through Education<\/li>\n<li>Preparing Providers to Manage Individuals With Complex Physical and Mental Health Needs<\/li>\n<li>Leveraging Technology for Enhanced Education<\/li>\n<li>Training and Support in System Navigation for Patients and Family Members<\/li>\n<li>Measurement Based Care and Quality Improvement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--A facilitated poster session will occur on Tuesday, October 8, 2019. During the facilitated poster session presenter(s) will be expected to provide a 5-7 minute presentation highlighting key points from their poster followed by a 2-3 minute group discussion. A facilitator will be appointed to lead the discussion. The purpose of facilitated sessions is to allow presenters and attendees an opportunity to share ideas and insights.\n\n\n<h2>Submission and Review Process<\/h2>\n\n\n<strong>Please submit online <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/r\/KT2Q7T2\">here<\/a>. It is recommended that you visit the abstract submission site once you are prepared to submit your entire abstract submission as it cannot be saved in draft.<\/strong>\n\nThe annual meeting planning committee is dedicated to assembling the highest-quality educational program for our attendees. Each year, the best-received sessions are those in which attendees learn information relevant to their work in a lively, engaging environment. In the spirit of continuous improvement we encourage all potential presenters to incorporate emerging knowledge about how adults learn to better engage their audience.\n\nPosters allow the dissemination of scholarly work completed by an individual or group, and presented by at least one author. Posters can describe the results of a research project within the MPA, a review or description of a programmatic innovation related to clinical care or education, or a review of literature related to a clinical case or educational intervention (i.e., case report). The topic must be considered relevant and specific to medical psychiatry and align with any of the conference themes and sub-themes and clearly describe how the innovation will amplify or spread impact.
