Fiona Webster, PhD

Dr Fiona Webster is an Education Scientist in the Office of Educational Scholarship (OES) of the Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) at the University of Toronto. She holds a PhD in sociology from the University of Toronto and has trained in critical qualitative and ethnographic approaches including institutional ethnography. Prior to this she was an Associate Scientist with the musculoskeletal health program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre where she led several innovative studies that utilized social science theory and methods to develop more effective strategies for integrating and promoting the uptake of evidence-based knowledge in the delivery of surgical care that are sensitive to clinical, policy and patient standpoints. Her current research with the DFCM focuses on medical education. Fiona is cross-appointed to the Departments of: Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH); Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (HPME); and the Institute of Medical Science (IMS) where she teaches graduate courses in qualitative research and knowledge translation. She is an Academic Fellow at the Centre for Critical Qualitative Health Research (CQ) and a cross-appointed scientist at the Wilson Centre.
