Dr. Parameswaran Nair
Dr. Nair is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Respirology at McMaster University, an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at McGill University, and a Staff Respirologist at the Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. He holds a Canada Research Chair in Airway Inflammometry and directs a Canadian Clinical Investigator’s Consortium in Severe Asthma supported by the AllerGen National Centre of Excellence and is a co-investigator of the CIHR-funded Canadian Respiratory Research Network. After obtaining his medical degree from the University of Kerala in India in 1988, he trained in general and respiratory medicine at the University of Kerala Medical College Hospital in Trivandrum, Royal Sunderland and Royal Sussex County Hospitals in England, and at McMaster University. He joined the faculty of Health Sciences of McMaster University in 2004 after completing a research fellowship and a PhD under the supervision of Professors Frederick Hargreave and Paul O’Byrne. Dr. Nair’s research, funded by grants from CIHR, NSERC, Grand Challenges Canada and Industry partners, focuses on developing and applying non-invasive measurements of airway inflammation in the treatment of asthma and COPD, particularly in patients with prednisone-dependent asthma. He has over 150 peer-reviewed publications in major general and respiratory medicine journals and is the recipient of the 2005 Ann Woolcock American Thoracic Society Award for Excellence in Asthma Research. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London, the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, the American College of Chest Physicians, and a Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of India and the Collegium Internationale Allergologicum.
