Direct anterior approach hip replacement in the lateral position

The Advanced Hip Course, presented by the University of Toronto and Mount Sinai Hospital, is an intensive, one-day program designed for orthopaedic surgeons looking to expand their surgical expertise in advanced hip arthroplasty.

Participants will explore new surgical techniques, with a special focus on the direct anterior approach performed in the lateral position. This approach represents a new opportunity for hip replacement surgery with the potential to transform the way we practice.

Building on Mount Sinai Hospital’s internationally recognized work in complex hip reconstruction, this course blends demonstrations with hands-on learning to deliver practical surgical skills training in a small group setting using cadaveric specimens. Expert faculty will guide learners through clinical considerations, procedural steps, instrumentation, and strategies for safely incorporating this surgical technique into practice.

Target Audience

Practicing orthopaedic surgeons who perform primary and complex hip replacement surgery and are looking to deepen their expertise in new techniques.

This course is particularly relevant for surgeons interested in learning about, or transitioning to, the direct anterior approach performed in the lateral position. It will also provide current concepts on approaches and techniques for complex hip replacement and revision surgery.
