Focus on POCUS: implementation and application in clinical practice

On behalf of the Planning Committee, we are excited to announce that the 2023 Toronto Anesthesia Symposium will return in the spring of 2023, including our very popular hands-on workshops on Sunday, April 2nd.

This year’s theme will bring together experts to discuss our current state of practice and the changing landscape of anesthesia Point of Care Ultrasonography (POCUS) as presented by invited and local faculty. Some highlight topics of the symposium include:

• Keynote Address: Why we should all be using bedside POCUS
• Panel discussion 1 – Unlocking the Potential of POCUS: Exploring Novel Applications (airway, labour and neuro anesthesia)
• Panel discussion 2 – How to become a POCUS champion and POCUS certification

We will also have the return of your exciting problem based learning discussions (PBLDs) to cover a range of topics including updates in anesthesia for obstetrics, pediatrics, obesity, implantable devices, chronic pain and many more!

A number of exciting workshops will be featured on Sunday, providing hands of learning for beginners to POCUS in cardiac, lung, trauma and neuro POCUS, as well as advanced vascular access workshops and highfidelty simulation in special populatios e.g. obstetrics.

Dr. Daniel Bainbridge MD BSc LMCC FRCPC

Dr. Bainbridge completed both medical school and an anesthesiology residency program at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He subsequently completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesia at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
