Dr. Claire De Souza
Dr. De Souza is Head of the Consultation-Liaison / Medical Psychiatry Program at SickKids. She is a Project Investigator with the Research Institute and Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. She holds a position of 2nd Vice President on the Medical Staff Association Executive at SickKids and is a Recruitment Co-Chair with the Department of Psychiatry. Dr. De Souza completed her studies at the University of Toronto, where she attained a Bachelor of Science degree with High Distinction, graduated from Medicine with Honours, and graduated from the Psychiatry Residency with a special focus in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Through the Faculty of Medicine, she has completed the Stepping Stones Teacher Training Certificate Program, the Project Planning and Management Course and the Physician Leadership Course. She sees children and adolescents with a variety of medical conditions, and provides consultation to medical and surgical wards. She consults to the Division of Hematology-Oncology, the SickKids Team Obesity Management Program (STOMP), and the 22q11 Deletion Syndrome Clinic. Her areas of interest include: the psychiatric needs of the medically ill, education and clinician well-being. She has collaborated on courses in communication, clinician well-being, and working with challenging families. She is actively involved in education: supervising and teaching medical students, psychiatry and pediatric residents. She has presented at national and international conferences and at family education days. She is involved in organizing and evaluating activities aimed at attracting medical students to the field of Psychiatry.
