New Forensic Pathology Hires 2018

The Ontario Forensic Pathologist Service is pleased to announce the following new staff:

Dr. Christopher (Toper) G. Ball, MBBS MScEng FRCPC – Forensic Pathologist and Coroner for Ontario, Provincial Forensic Pathology Unit

 
Dr. Ball is a forensic pathologist at the Provincial Forensic Pathology Unit (PFPU) in Toronto. He received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Wollongong in Australia in 2011. He completed residency training in Anatomical Pathology at the University of Ottawa and passed the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) examination in Anatomical Pathology in 2017. He completed fellowship training in Forensic Pathology at the University of Toronto and PFPU in July 2018, and will sit the RCPSC sub-specialty examination in forensic pathology in September 2018. Dr. Ball’s previous career is in Mechanical Engineering, with both work and research experience in the field; he completed a Bachelor and Master of Science, both in Mechanical Engineering. He also holds undergraduate degrees in French Studies and Life Sciences. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and made presentations at international conferences on topics in Fluid Mechanics and in Anatomical Pathology (including forensic pathology, peri-natal pathology, surgical pathology). Dr. Ball was recently appointed as a coroner for Ontario in August 2018.


Dr. Liza Boucher MD FRCPC – Forensic Pathologist

 
Dr. Liza Boucher is rejoining the Provincial Forensic pathology Unit as a staff forensic pathologist in November 2018, after working as a forensic pathologist at the Laboratoire de sciences judiciaires et de médecine légale in Montreal (LSJML) for just over five years. Liza obtained her medical degree and Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Montreal in 2004, followed by three years of training in General Surgery and an Anatomical Pathology residency at Laval University. She completed her residency training in Forensic Pathology at the University of Toronto/Provincial Forensic Pathology Unit program in 2012. Liza is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Anatomical and Forensic Pathology.


Dr. Jay Maxwell MD

 
Dr. Jay Maxwell completed his MD at the University of Calgary and his residency in Anatomical Pathology at McMaster University. He recently completed a Fellowship in Forensic Pathology at McMaster University / the Hamilton Regional Forensic Pathology Unit and will be staying on as a staff forensic pathologist starting in October 2018. Prior to entering medicine Dr. Maxwell obtained a BSc in Archaeology at the University of Calgary, a MA in Physical Anthropology / Bioarchaeology at The University of Western Ontario and a MSc in Clinical Anatomy, also at The University of Western Ontario.
