Dr. Patricia Houston

Patricia Houston
Dr. Patricia Houston began her term as Vice Dean of the MD Program in 2016. In addition to leadership of the MD and MD/PhD Programs including curriculum, Dr. Houston has academic oversight of the Medical Radiation Sciences Program.

A graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, where she also completed a Masters in Education at OISE, Dr. Houston has distinguished herself as a collaborative leader in health professional education. She has served in a number of leadership roles both at the University and at St. Michael’s Hospital, where she served as Vice President, Education. She was Vice Chair of Education in the Faculty of Medicine Department of Anesthesia from 2004 to 2011 and served as Acting Vice-Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education in 2012-2013. At St. Michael’s she has served as Medical Director, Perioperative Service Program and Anesthetist-in-Chief, among other roles. In addition, she co-chaired the TAHSN Education Committee from 2011 to 2014.

Dr. Houston joined the Department of Anesthesia at the Faculty of Medicine in 1984 as a Lecturer and was appointed full Professor in 2006. Throughout her career she has been recognized with numerous teaching and leadership awards. She is an active member of a number of international and national organizations and associations, including the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society, of which she was President from 2012 to 2014.

Dr. Benoit Mulsant

Benoit H. Mulsant
Dr. Benoit Mulsant is the Executive Director of the Medical Psychiatry Alliance, as well as Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh. He is a practicing geriatric psychiatrist and has been listed in Best Doctors in America and Best Doctors in Canada.

Dr. Mulsant’s scientific work has focused on the treatment of late-life mental disorders. He has authored and co-authored more than 350 peer-reviewed journal articles and more than 50 book chapters and invited publications. Over the past 20 years, he has been an investigator on grants with external funding totaling more than $100M in direct costs (including more than $40M as principal investigator or team leader).

Dr. Sanjeev Sockalingam

Sanjeev Sockalingam
After earning his medical degree at the University of Manitoba and his psychiatry residency at the University of Toronto, he continued his studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he received a Masters of Health Professions Education. Until taking on his new role at CAMH, he served as Deputy, Psychiatrist-in-Chief at the University Health Network (UHN) and Director of Continuing Professional and Practice Development for Psychiatry at the University of Toronto.

No stranger to CAMH, Dr. Sockalingam is co-leading our Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) Ontario Mental Health, a national leading practice that aims to build capacity for delivering excellent mental health care in primary care settings. His research and education contributions have been recognized through national and international grants and awards and his initiatives are strengthening the relationship between quality improvement and continuing professional development.

While at UHN, Dr. Sockalingam advanced psychosocial care in obesity by leading the development of an integrated Bariatric Surgery Psychosocial Program. Some of his other work on system change in the lead up to his appointment at CAMH included integrating medical psychiatry into the University of Toronto MD Program Foundations Curriculum, which helps future physicians become equipped to recognize and attend to the holistic needs of patients.
