Objective

Develop the technical facility to perform common neuroendoscopic intraventricular and craniofacial procedures including managing complications, safely and effectively. These procedures include Endocsopic Third Ventriculostomy (ETV), ETV with choroid plexus coagulation (ETV?CPC), Image Guided Endoscopic Colloid Cyst Removal, and Endoscopic Sagittal and Metopic synostosis surgery.

Goals

  1. Be able to describe the relevant intraventricular anatomy for neuro-endoscopic surgery and endoscopic craniosynostosis surgery
  2. Recognize the indications, contra-indications, patient selection, complications, and complication avoidance for intraventricular and craniofacial surgery.
  3. Be familiar with the different neuro-endoscopic equipment, advantages, disadvantages, handling and safety including use of concomitant image guidance

Facilities

The course will take place in Department of Surgery Surgical Skills Centre, at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, using state of the art endoscopic equipment. The course uses realistic 3D printed synthetic models which have bleeding scenarios, and an ETV virtual reality trainer.
