Jonathan Trobe

Jonathan Trobe grew up in Europe and South America, acquiring fluency in German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. My research has included studies of utilization of health care personnel and application of clinical trial data to medical practice. As editor of the Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology (2001-2010), I have written and taught widely in developing countries, especially in Asia, about how to prepare manuscripts for publication in American medical journals. I have authored for the American Academy of Ophthalmology a textbook on ophthalmology for non-ophthalmologist health care providers (“The Physician’s Guide to Eye Care”), the most widely used textbook in this field. I authored a web-based adaptation of that text (“The Eyes Have It”), which is being developed now as a mobile application. I have authored and conducted a 2-day case-based interactive course in neuro-ophthalmology that I hope will serve as a prototype for in-service and continuing medical education. It incorporates problem-solving of case material displayed with video illustrations. I have initiated observational studies involving a consortium of former neuro-ophthalmology fellows, its principle being the acquisition of large patient data sets. We have completed data collection on one study and are starting a second.
