Participants will have the opportunity to practice different hernia repair skills in the following scenarios:

  1. Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair – TAPP, TEP

    • Anatomy of the myopectineal orifice will be reviewed
    • Operative steps will be taught in detail
    • Mesh type and mesh placement will be discussed
    • Laparoscopic suturing and tacking techniques will be reviewed
  2. Enhanced Totally Extraperitoneal ventral hernia repair (eTEP)

    • Anatomy of the retromuscular space will be reviewed
    • Operative steps will be taught in detail – gaining access to the retromuscular space, crossover and reduction of the hernia sac.
    • Pitfalls and complications will be discussed.
  3. Open ventral hernia repair – TAR

    • Anatomy of the abdominal wall will be reviewed
    • Indications for TAR will be outlined
    • Operative steps will be demonstrated and taught in detail
    • Mesh type will be discussed
    • Pitfalls and complications will be outlined.
  4. Open inguinal hernia repair – Shouldice

    • Anatomy of the abdominal wall will be reviewed
