  • Module 1a: Bootcamp – CPD in the Era of COVID-19

    The adventure begins. An important aspect of this program is the opportunity for this to be an evolving classroom that acknowledges the depth and wealth of information that is being by providers and participants alike. This module is designed to set the stage by providing introductions, clarifying expectations, determining what we believe makes leadership in CPD unique and determining the kind of virtual classroom that will be the most productive for participants and speakers alike. We will explore what is involved in articulating the value of CPD to stakeholders, components and importance of leadership in CPD, the impact of COVID and implications for furthering a virtual world.

  • Module 1b: Bootcamp – Best Practices in CPD

    October 27, 2021

    This module discusses the recent Future of Medical Education in Canada- CPD (FMEC-CPD) white paper and implications for future training and qualification of CPD providers. Time will be spent in reviewing and further developing knowledge of current CPD Best Practices.

  • Module 2: Leadership in CPD

    November 17, 2021

    This module takes a deeper look at leadership. Using a variety of instructional methods, well known speakers will provide an overview of principles of effective leadership, further exploration of the knowledge, skills and attitudes that makes CPD leadership unique. Participants will have the opportunity to informally explore their current and anticipated career in CPD through a cozy “fireside chat” with a well-known and respected veteran in the field.

  • Module 3: Systems based CPD

    December 15, 2021

    This module will take a broader view of CPD and explore a health systems approach to CPD. With our complex health system, we will examine the intersection of domains of quality improvement, patient safety and knowledge translation with CPD. Quality improvement principles and concepts with practical applications to integrate with CPD will be discussed. The module will also examine how data analytics and systems data can be used to drive change in CPD.

  • Module 4: Individual CPD

    January 5, 2022

    Ultimately the success of CPD returns to the induvial learner. Traditionally CPD has been something of a random affair determined by individuals’ interests and perceived learning needs. This module examines what is needed to assist professionals in creating a meaningful pathway of lifelong learning. We will discuss current research on developing efficacy in self-assessment and the impact of competency-based learning on the field.

  • Module 5: Team Based CPD

    January 26, 2022

    Effective patient care requires effective teams. Module 6 explores several aspects of current CPD for teams including patient safety, incorporation of work base learning methods, and delves into the components of what is needed to develop adaptive expertise in practice.

  • Module 6: Continuing Interprofessional CPD

    February 16, 2022

    CPD is a team activity and ensuring that we have the right team members and a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion is essential for influencing change in practice. Integrating a mindset of inclusion goes beyond professions and extends into practice, the community and the system. Notions of involvement and engagement are rapidly evolving and we will look at how to strengthen the impact of CPD by expanding who is at the table and how to build outstanding programs based on diverse and expansive perspectives.

  • Module 7: Evaluation and Outcomes-Based CPD

    Building a culture of robust evaluation and assessment is a cornerstone of understanding and communicating the value of CPD. Moving beyond the evaluation of participant satisfaction to evaluating the changes in knowledge, skills, and behaviour and measuring the impact of these changes on outcomes for the patients, community and the broader health system is essential. This module will explores theories of change, evaluation approaches and tools that will ensure that you can lead CPD with the best data, evidence and knowledge at your fingertips.

  • Module 8: Coaching and Mentoring

    April 6, 2022

    Significant research now exists supporting the importance of coaching and mentoring in increasing job satisfaction, enthusiasm for continued learning and increasing practice change. How do we shift from a culture of “telling” to one of supporting intrinsic motivation and wisdom of the individual? Basic principles of coaching and mentoring and examples of training will be examined. An exciting addition is the role narrative or storytelling can play in impacting change.

  • Module 9: Technology Enhanced CPD

    April 27, 2022

    Almost overnight the world of CPD has seen an enormous transformation due to COVID-19 and pandemic planning. Digital CPD has gone from an option to a necessity and essential service in all CPD offices. This module will provide you with an understanding of how to build a culture of Digital CPD, from integrating the essential technologies to build a business model and creating a culture driven by data and evolving systems that create data informed learning and promote practice change.

  • Module 10: Simulation-Based CPD

    May 11, 2022

    Simulation-based medical education is increasingly being utilized in CPD to facilitate performance improvement. Technology has advanced such that the tools available for simulation range from simple task trainers to use of high-fidelity and virtual reality simulators. Though case studies, we will explore the range of technology-enhanced simulation and discuss how these tools can be used to address a variety of competencies for the individual (e.g. procedural skills, decision analysis) and collective competencies for the healthcare team to achieve higher learning outcomes.

  • Module 11: Scholarship in CPD

    June 1, 2022

    Creating a culture of learning and discovery in the content of CPD starts and ends with curiosity. This module will provide different perspectives on how to foster the culture of curiosity in your office and lead from a position of evidence-informed and evidence-driven practice. We will examine the building blocks of scholarly approaches to CPD, from the conceptual to the practical and reflect on how to ask the right questions every step of the way that will lead to better practices and better outcomes.

  • Module 12: Future of CPD

    June 22, 2022

    CPD is a growing and evolving field. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought CPD to a pivotal point with an opportunity to transform and implement changes that we know will enable CPD to be more effective and value-add to our stakeholders. In this module you will have the opportunity to hear perspectives and reflections from international leaders and explore what the future holds for CPD.
