Joanne Alfieri is Associate Professor & Associate Chair (Education) in the Department of Oncology, McGill University. She is a radiation oncologist specializing in treating gynaecological and gastrointestinal malignancies at the McGill University Health Centre. After her medical degree and residency at McGill, she completed a fellowship in Gynaecology Oncology and MRI-guided Brachytherapy at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia.

She has a keen interest in medical education and after completing her medical training, she earned her Masters in Medical Education at the University of Dundee, Scotland. She is currently the Assistant dean, PGME Curricula at McGill University.

Dr. Alfieri leads the gynecological site group and the brachytherapy lead for the MUHC. She initiated the MRI-guided brachytherapy program at McGill, and her current research interests lie in the evaluation of this program to improve the long-term outcomes and minimize treatment-related toxicity in gynaecological cancer patients as well as in investigating alternate treatment options for locally advanced cervix cancer.

Dr. Matthew A. Powell is a Professor who is board certified in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology and is the chief of the division of Gynecologic Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine. He leads the NCI sponsored NRG Uterine Corpus committee as chair. Dr. Powell provides high-quality individualized care to women diagnosed with gynecologic malignancies and those with suspected gynecologic cancer or precancerous conditions. This includes women who have cancer of the cervix, endometrium, fallopian tubes, ovaries, uterus, vagina and vulva. In addition to seeing patients, he is part of the faculty at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO, which is ranked 7th in the nation for its graduate program in Obstetrics & Gynecology.

In 1990, Dr. Powell received his Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Biophysics from Washington State University. He obtained his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, in East Lansing, in 1995. After medical school, Dr. Powell graduated from the obstetrics & gynecology residency program at Ohio State University Hospital, in Columbus, in 1999. To round out his medical training, he completed his fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine, in St. Louis, Missouri in 2002.

Dr. Powell has been with Washington University Gynecologic Oncology specialists for over 20 years. He became chief of the division in 2015. As a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and Siteman Cancer Center, including many other societies and organizations, Dr. Powell has had numerus abstracts published pertaining to causes and treatments of gynecologic conditions.
