The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine (DoAPM) at Temerty Medicine is pleased to present a comprehensive, in-person Faculty Development Day designed for all faculty members, fellows, and senior residents. This annual event is dedicated to equipping participants with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to excel as clinician teachers and to successfully navigate transitions into academic practice and promotion within DoAPM at Temerty Medicine.
The one-day, in-person conference will take place on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Chelsea Hotel Toronto —a fully accessible, newly renovated venue centrally located in downtown Toronto.
The program begins with a 60-minute keynote address by Dr. Alika Lafontaine. Named Maclean’s top Health Care Innovator of 2023, Dr. Alika Lafontaine is an anesthesiologist and transformative leader. He made history as the first Indigenous and youngest physician to serve as President of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA). We aim to have his bold, visionary leadership shape how attendees think about healthcare, equity, and the future of our public systems. Following the keynote, attendees will participate in two hours of self-directed learning through interactive workshops and small group sessions. These sessions will focus on vital topics such as the use of AI in education and the workplace, EDIIA, leadership development, academic promotion and transition to retirement, effective clinical supervision and small group teaching strategies.
After lunch, the afternoon features two hours devoted to both departmental and personal/professional strategic planning. Attendees can select from one of three specialized tracks:
1. Launch: The DoAPM Leadership Development Program (For Faculty)
2. Licensure & Royal College Exam Preparation (For Fellows, IMG, New Faculty, Residents)
3. Introduction to AI (For Faculty, Fellows, Residents)
