Jean-Francois Boileau MD, MSc

Dr Boileau is an associate professor in the Departments of Surgery and Gerald Bronfman Oncology at McGill University. He is a surgical oncologist and director of the Breast Clinical Trials Group at the Montreal Jewish General Segal Cancer Centre and a founding member of the Quebec McPeak-Sirois Clinical Trials Consortium. He is an author on the breast neoadjuvant PALLET (Palbociclib), KRISTINE (Trastuzumab emtansine) and KEYNOTE-522 (Pembrolizumab) trials published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Lancet Oncology and in the New England Journal of Medicine.
As the Principle Investigator of the SN FNAC study (Journal of Clinical Oncology), he has contributed to establishing sentinel node biopsy as an acceptable option to re-stage the axilla of node positive breast cancer patients after neoadjuvant therapy.

Marylise Boutros is a Staff Colorectal Surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic Florida and the Regional Digestive Disease Institute Director of Research. Previously, Dr. Boutros was a Colorectal Surgeon at the Jewish General Hospital, Professor of Surgery at McGill University, and Colorectal Surgery Program Director. Having completed General Surgery residency at McGill University and Colorectal Surgery residency at Cleveland Clinic Florida, her clinical interests are advanced minimally invasive approaches to benign and malignant colorectal and anorectal diseases. She treats colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, fecal incontinence and all anorectal disorders.
Dr Boutros is a federally funded researcher who currently leads an internationally renowned research program focused on assessing innovations to improve recovery and functional outcomes after colorectal surgery using multicentre prospective trials, patient-centred interventions and patient-reported outcome measures. Within her research program, Dr Boutros has mentored over forty trainees and graduate students. Dr Boutros also has leadership roles in multiple international societies including Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Canadian Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the Canadian Association of General Surgeons.

Haytham M. Kaafarani, MD, MPH, FACS, is the Hospital Director of Quality and Safety, Trauma Medical Director at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), and a Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. Between 2022 and 2023, Dr. Kaafarani served as the Chief Patient Safety Officer of The Joint Commission. In that role, he was the president’s designee to prioritize patient safety concerns at Joint Commission-accredited health care organizations, provided oversight and medical expertise for the Office of Quality and Patient Safety, and oversaw data management and analysis related to the Sentinel Event Database. His previous roles include Director of the MGH Center for Outcomes & Patient Safety in Surgery (COMPASS) and Director of the MGH Wound Center. Dr. Kaafarani is a recognized authority and speaker with more than 450 published peer-reviewed manuscripts and textbook chapters with a focus on surgical patient safety from intake to discharge, benchmarking quality care, peer support, and the use of artificial intelligence for risk modeling and predicting outcomes. He has won numerous awards, including a nomination to the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. Dr. Kaafarani received his Master of Public Health from Harvard University and his doctorate from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. He holds certifications in surgery and surgical critical care from the American Board of Surgery.
