CPD Award Winners Announced

The results are in for the 2014-2015 CPD Awards! This year saw a wealth of fantastic nominations, and now we’re excited to share the names of the winners of our eight awards.

The CPD Awards and Fellowships are given out annually to recognize excellent researchers, innovators, teams, and those who have shown a long-standing commitment to continuing education in the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine.

Each award is unique, honouring members of the U of T medical education community for a broad range of different occupations and areas of success. Congratulations to the following CPD award winners:

Colin Woolf Award for Long Term Contributions to Continuing Education (co-winners)

For sustained contributions to continuing education over at least five years.

Colin Woolf Award for Excellence in Course Coordination

For coordinating a course accredited by the University of Toronto.

Fred Fallis Online Program Award

For demonstrated innovation and excellence in online learning for health professionals.
TEACH (Training Enhancement in Applied Cessation Counselling and Health Project)

Course Director: Dr. Peter Selby, Associate Professor, Department of Family and Community Medicine and Department of Psychiatry

IPE Team Healthcare CE Award

For exceptional health care teams dedicated to the provision of quality health care.

Who’s Afraid of Borderline Personality Disorder? Using strategies from dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) with emotionally dysregulated patients (part of UHN Department of Psychiatry 8th Annual Community Education Day)

Ivan Silver Innovation Award

For a demonstrated effect on health professional performance or health outcome.
Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) Course

CPD Awards 2014-2015: Nominations Open

Nominations are now open for the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine’s Continuing Professional Development Awards. Members of the Faculty of Medicine community can now nominate their colleagues from their respective departments for awards of excellence for the 2014-2015 academic year.

The awards recognize extraordinary members of the University of Toronto faculty who are internationally renowned for their scholarly contributions.

Celebrating the Achievements of Those Providing Excellence in Continuing Education

On Tuesday, May 13, 2014, the Continuing Education Awards Adjudication Committee presented recipients with their awards for excellence in CE during the 2014 Faculty of Medicine Education Achievement Celebration at Hart House (The Great Hall), University of Toronto.

CPD congratulates all the Continuing Education Award winners on their recognized achievement in providing top quality education and teaching!

Colin R. Woolf Award for Excellence in Course Coordination

David Jaffray, Pamela Catton and Nicole Harnett (Department of Radiation Oncology) for developing a broad interprofessional curriculum in radiation oncology (Princess Margaret Hospital Accelerated Education Program) that looks at impact on practice as an outcome.

Colin R. Woolf Award for Long-Term Contributions to Continuing Education

Paula Ravitz (Department of Psychiatry) for the breadth and depth of her contributions to CPD in a relatively short period of time: Leadership, scholarship, research, publications and program development.

Colin R. Woolf Award for Teaching Excellence

Miriam Weinstein (Department of Paediatrics) for her glowing teaching evaluations from multiple course participants over several years.

David Fear Fellowship

Douglas Wooster (Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery) to develop an electronic vascular ultrasound curriculum.

Ivan Silver Innovation Award

Joel Sadavoy, Virginia Wesson and LJ Nelles (Department of Psychiatry) for their train-the-trainer “The Reitman Centre CARERS” program designed to educate family members how to care for their relative Alzheimer’s disease with the ultimate goal to allow the Alzheimer’s patient to remain longer in a home environment before becoming institutionalized.

Interprofessional Team Continuing Education Award

Michael Pollanen (Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine) for the interdisciplinary interprofessional program for coroners, lawyers and pathologists as well as technologists on suicide.
