Program Design

Designing High-Quality CPD Programs: What We Look For

Great CPD programs are built on the principles of effective adult learning, and we’re here to help you meet those standards. When you submit an accreditation application, we’ll be looking for key elements that reflect best practices and accreditation standards:

  1. Needs-Based Planning: The Scientific Planning Committee (SPC) should conduct a thorough needs assessment that considers both what learners say they need (perceived needs) and what they may not yet recognize (unperceived or emerging needs).
  2. Learner-Centered Design: Clearly identify your target audience and include representatives from that group on your SPC to ensure the program is relevant and meaningful.
  3. Transparent Program Management: The SPC should take full responsibility for the program’s content and finances. Activities must be free from industry influence and aligned with the National Standard and our CPD Policy on Sponsorship Support.
  4. Purposeful Learning Objectives: Your program goals and learning objectives should be directly informed by the needs assessment and tailored to your audience.
  5. Engaging, Interactive Learning: Design your agenda to meet your objectives using adult learning principles. At least 25% of the program should include interactive learning elements to keep learners engaged.
  6. Thoughtful Evaluation & Feedback: Include a plan for assessing the program’s impact and gathering feedback.
